Østerberg

Cathrine Østerberg has always loved ice cream. Actually she loved it so much, that she started her first job as a 13-year old girl, working as an ice cream girl in Kerteminde. Lots of ice cream, the nice smell from freshly baked cones, long working days and hard work could not scare off Cathrine from the ice cream. The interest within food was awaken and this led to Cathrine moving to Copenhagen to study Food science and afterwards Gastronomy & Health at University of Copenhagen.

As her Master thesis, Cathrine went to Canada, where one of the worlds leading ice cream researchers work (professor Douglas Goff). Here she researched the food chemical part of ice cream structure and the ice cream recipes were adjusted.

As you know, the apple does not fall far from the tree. Her father, Niels Østerberg, started Orana in 1999, which originates from the former juice factory in Rynkeby. Orana has grown continuously and does now have daugther companies in Vietnam, Egypt, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kenya. This makes Orana one of the leading fruit companies in the world. With the local know-how, is achieved a large knowledge and understanding of the many different fruits, plants, extracts and spices, that grow all over the world. Cathrine has been fortunate to take part in some some of these journeys, which results in Østerberg being able to offer the guests a taste of all these fruits as part of a delicous, refreshing ice cream.

The combination of a passionate ice cream nerd and a experienced fruit man is what it takes to make a fantastic ice cream of good quality.
